The Wolf River basin stretches 225 miles through 6 counties and collects water from 4 large river systems and opens into an expanse of 2 lakes of 14,000 & 4553 acres before connecting with the 182 mile Fox River in the 8800 acre Lake Butte Des Morts in Winnebago County. These waters then flow into the 137,700 acre Lake Winnebago. This system is known as the White Bass capital of the world and is one of the best natural Walleye fisheries in the country. Besides Walleye and White Bass; the Winnebago system, as it also is referred to, is home to most, if not all, of the countries fresh water species. Lake Winnebago is an excellent Perch fishery and is also home to a large population of naturally reproducing Lake Sturgeon; which can be viewed during their spawning run from just down river(Wolf River) from New London up river to the Shawano dam. Trolling is allowed on all of the big lakes.
