The Snoqualmie river is the nearest steelhead river to Seattle. This is truly a magnificent spot with deep steelhead holes, through be careful how deep you fish as the shallows are ready to swallow up your tackle.

The prime steelhead fishing takes place in December and January. The Snoqualmie’s first winter steelhead are caught in November, and by the time December is upon us fishing really warms up.

With heavy rains in the winter, the first steelhead appear and fly anglers find themselves pulling into one of these chrome fish. The run peaks in December and early January, but winter steelhead are taken up until the end of February.

The river below the falls closes for March, April and May. The summer steelhead fishing continues until heavy fall rains raise the river to winter levels. The numbers of fish holding in the pools build during the summer and the fishing is great up to the first real cold spell.
