Situated in the centre of the market town of Pickering at the foot of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, Pickering Trout Lake is an established one acre game fishery adjacent to the North York Moors steam railway.
The fishery is primarily geared toward the first time or novice fisher but does also cater for the more experienced visitor. It is an ideal place for children to learn to fish. We can provide good quality tackle with bait, infact everything that you need. If you’re on holiday we can keep the fish for you in our freezers or fridges until the end of your stay. There is a cafe selling sweets and drinks.
The lake is nominally split into two areas, one end for bait fishing and the other for those fly fishing.
Bait Fishing:
This is fun, easy and aimed at all the family. Basic tuition and assistance is available at the weekends. All equipment can be hired or you can bring your own. All fish caught must be landed and killed and are weighed in at the end of fishing; no fish may be returned.
Fly Fishing:
For the more experienced or expert fishing on the fly can be under the same rules as for bait fishing or we offer an all day catch and release option for the more competent fly fisher. Bags of 100 plus fish have been recorded over the day.
All fish weighed in can be cleaned, gutted and bagged. For those staying in caravans or holiday accommodation fish can be held in freezers until you are ready to go home. Insulated boxes are also available for transport of fish over longer journeys.
Pickering Trout Lake Prices:
Admission for those bait fishing or fly fishing on a catch and kill basis is £6 per rod, £11 for two rods, £5 per rod for three or more rods (or groups of people with one rod each of course).
Fly fishing catch and release is charged at £20 per rod and is an all day ticket regardless of time of admission. We do not operate half day tickets.
All fish caught and landed are weighed in at £6.50 / Kilo ungutted. Gutting, cleaning and waste disposal is charged at 50p/kilo.
Dogs are admitted as long as they remain on a lead, are cleaned up after. Children under the age of 14 must be supervised by an adult of 18 years or older. Due to health and safety reasons people actively fishing/family only lakeside. We advocate the use of hat and safety glasses for all fishing activity.
Opening Times:
We open the 28th March and close on the 1st of November.
During this period we open daily from 10am daily. On a quiet or rainy weekday we may close as early as 2.30 if no-one is here. Weekends we are generally open until between 5 and 7pm again depending on weather.
