Messingham Sands
This is the North’s premiere fishing venue. Covering an extensive 66 acres, the superb fishing is set in beautiful surroundings and caters for all types of angler from top flight match men to the dedicated club match angler, pleasure anglers of all abilities and specimen anglers alike who can target a variety of species.
The Fishery has been established for over 30 years.
Our motto is “Run by Anglers for Anglers” and this is reflected in the quality of the fishing, the room between pegs (particularly on the match waters) and the sensible use of rules which both protect and encourage high standards throughout.
The site includes two Syndicate Lakes catering for both specimen and all round anglers. Both can enjoy the relative seclusion offered by syndicate fishing. The Syndicate Lakes, known as The Old Match Lake and The Small Pond both offer excellent mixed fishing, containing good sized fish of a number of different species although the Carp fishing appears to be the attraction for the vast majority of members. Both lakes offer excellent all year round sport.
Our famous match lakes have been providing fantastic match weights for many years with anglers regularly achieving the 100lb barrier and with winning weights to 391lbs recorded. Our conservational efforts and no nonsense approach to providing a good days fishing for all can be seen in the quality of the fish stocks and the level of catches.
Our three Day Ticket Waters are hugely popular throughout the whole region with anglers travelling many miles to sample the superb fishing on offer. The incredibly popular Oak Tree Lake has been producing huge catches to almost any bait for many seasons, with anglers enjoying all year round sport from a variety of species but in particular the large head of Carp.
The North and South Day Ticket lakes offer something a little different for visiting anglers, containing many species of fish to specimen proportions.
You can expect to catch something to remember when fishing on any one of these lakes.
Please ensure that you are aware of the fishery rules when fishing the lakes, Match and Pleasure Fishing rules may be subject to change so please check the FISHERY RULES section on the website before visiting the fishery. Thank you.

Match Fishing Rules
Barbless hooks only, maximum size 12
Maximum match duration 6 hours
Anglers must not lift their keep nets from the water , fishery staff will be on hand at the end of your match to weigh all fish, this is to prevent damage to our fish stocks
No litter
Dead fish will not be weighed
Bait restrictions : No cat or dog meat
No floating baits, floating pole may be used providing the bait is a minimum of 12 inches below the surface
Popped up baits may be used provided that the bait is without any doubt below the surface
Only pellets (including feed and hook pellets) supplied by the fishery can be used on all Match Waters,
these pellets are available from the fishery office which is situated just past the Swan Pond.
Method bans : All methods can be used unless otherwise stated
Exclusions are : No self hooking floats allowed, including Numpty, Bagging Wagglers, Controller, Bubble type floats, or any variations of the above
All Wagglers must be of a standard bottom end only design with a maximum capacity of 12 grams including loading.
Please note that the shotting capacity of the float must be visible (i.e. not painted over) and floats which say 12 + any other amount are too big.
The maximum above water diameter of floats allowable is 12mm. The total shotting capacity will remain the same, i.e. 12 grams. To clarify this, the above water (i.e.visible) portion of all waggler type floats may not exceed 12mm in diameter. This rule is to prevent fishing matches from becoming one method only events as was the case in the past when large self hooking floats were allowed. This rule applies to all five match lakes
TRIPP LAKE is classed as a float only venue, float only means with pole or running line only, no ledgering or feeder fishing, and only applies to TRIPP LAKE
No dogs are allowed on any of our sites.
Please help to preserve the abundance of wildlife on our fishery by taking all litter and line home, you may not be around to see the results of discarded line but we are !
Please do not stand behind anglers who are competing in matches. They have a limited time in which to try to make a winning catch and you may reduce their chances of doing so
A separate set of rules apply to the syndicate lakes which are provided by the fishery upon membership acceptance
HOLLYWOOD LAKE: From now on the ban on method feeder and fixed rigs has been lifted , but will remain in place on Merry,s Pool. The average size of the Carp in Hollywood Lake has increased, such that the lip damage exhibited by smaller Carp when method feeder tactics are employed should be eliminated.
MERRY,S POOL: No method feeders, Inline Feeders, or fixed Feeders. (STANDARD FREE RUNNING PATERNOSTER STYLE FEEDERS ARE OK ) Minimum Hooklength for Ledgering / Feeder fishing is 12 Inches.
Please note that this rule applies ONLY TO MERRY’S POOL.
