Lake Malaren is shared by four counties and is the third largest lake in Sweden, with an area of 1220km2. The maximum depth is 67 meters.

The lake is one of the most species-rich lakes in the country with 32 known species of fish.

In Lake Mälaren the most  sought after species are  Zander (Pike- Perch or walleye), perch, pike and whitefish and the elongated lake has an extensive commercial and recreational fishing.

Great  jigging for Perch in January-February. In the early spring, it is good ice fishing for pike and zander. The Zander is very popular summer fish caught by jigging and trolling or trolling on open water on hot summer nights.

Spring Summer pike taken are common while spinning or trolling / trolling.

There is a slight chance are also available for salmon and sea trout that migrate up to Lake Mälaren, by the Stockholm stream and at Södertälje. Sea trout coming in early spring, salmon during the summer.
