This is one of the very few rivers in this part of the world that remains totally free flowing from man made obstacles.
The Kalixälven salmon are wild and recent average weight has been 6-7 kg with fish as big as 15 kg being caught . Jockfall is the most productive fishing in Kalixälven along with the rapids downstreams, and the lower parts of Ängesån and Kaitumälven.
The fishing at Jockfall is either a fly or spinning . The fly and spinning are used in turns on either side of the river, switching every 2 days.
Spin fishing with fly and sinker is forbidden.
The fishing further downstream from Jockfall offers some beautiful stretches for fly fishing and at Ansvar the use of a boat is possible in the calmer areas of the river.
Fishing at Jockfall is done from the shore using either a fly rod or spinner. In order to offer fishing as enjoyable as possible, each side of the river alternates between fly and spinner. The sides are changed every day. One salmon per angler and day may be kept. In Jockfall there is a complete ban on sinkers when spinner fishing. Fishing with a float is permitted. When fishing at Jockfall the method used for both flyfishing and spinner fishing is step and cast.
The salmon fishing season starts at the end of May and continues until the end of August. The best time for salmon angling is from the week before Midsummer (which falls on 24 June) to the end of August. The best time for grayling is at the beginning of the season, when the water is coldest. There are always plenty of grayling in the area. We recommend that when you arrive at Jockfall, you bring a one-hand rod and grayling flies.
