The Dundas Arms

If you prefer your pints served to you riverside then look no further than the gorgeous Dundas Arms in the charming countryside town of Kintbury. With stunning chalk stream fishing within view. See Barton Court – River Kennet on the Fishprep map.

Perched on a sliver of land sandwiched between the River Kennet and the Kennet and Avon canal, this picturesque 18th century inn is an absolute gem. Inside you’ll find distinctive nooks and crannies complete with an antique penny bar, large fireplaces and handsomely decorated dining rooms. Many of the rooms come with their own private terraces overlooking the canal where you can sit back and enjoy breakfast the next morning.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Riverside regency meets countryside charm in The Dundas Arms’ eight handsome rooms. Mahogany sleigh beds are partnered with carefully chosen antiques, lavish curtains and bold Barnaby Gates patterned wallpaper. Families will find space and river views in the four House Rooms, but it is the downstairs River Rooms that really caught our eye with their private patios that come to meet the edge of the River Kennet. Perfect for breakfast in the sunshine while watching the world float by – and dog friendly too.

ALL ARE WELCOME

RESTAURANT & BAR

You couldn’t have a restaurant that literally kisses a riverbank without some exceptional fish dishes on the menu and The Dundas doesn’t disappoint with everything from freshwater catches to oysters, scallops and sea bass. Combine that with local game and farm fresh vegetables and you have the recipe for some truly tempting seasonal British cuisine including chicken liver parfait with pan fried foie gras, Harissa marinated lamb rump, honey glazed ham hock, juicy steaks and of course burgers. Collect your chilled rosé or Sipsmith G&T from the outdoor bar and dine soaking up the sunshine in the jaw-dropping garden.

PRIVATE DINING & EVENTS

You are truly spoilt for choice when planning an event at the Dundas with plenty of private rooms and corners for parties of all shapes and sizes. Inside, the Private Dining Room seats 16 and is a breath of elegance with antique furnishings accented by creams and gold. And then, there’s the garden. If you haven’t fallen in love with the British countryside yet, then this fairytale land of knobbly apple trees, rose bushes, flowers and river (complete with its own brigade of Dundas Ducks) is guaranteed to win over hearts and minds. Over 100 people can enjoy drinks and canapés in the lovely garden. If the British weather looms, a dinner party of eight can take cover in the stone Barn but the crowning jewel has to be the ‘Secret Garden’ a table of 12 beneath the shade of a sweeping willow that offers dining at the very tip where the canal and the river meet.
